St. Vincent's New Album Is "Locked and Loaded" for 2021
She says to get ready for a "a tectonic shift" from 'MASSEDUCTION'
Published Dec 15, 2020St. Vincent is readying a new album, and she's promising it will arrive in 2021.
The songwriter born Annie Clark broke the news in an interview with Mojo, which has been shared via Reddit. While speaking to the publication, Clark explained her proper follow-up to 2017's MASSEDUCTION is done and ready for consumption.
"It's locked and loaded," St. Vincent told Mojo of the as-yet-untitled new album. "And I'm American so I will only use gun metaphors."
She added that the record is "a tectonic shift," explaining: "I felt I had gone as far as I could possibly go with angularity. I was interested in going back to the music I've listened to more than any other — Stevie Wonder records from the early '70s, Sly and the Family Stone. I studied at the feet of those masters."
Clark also added that with her new sound will come a new live show.
"My last tour was a whole bunch of production and high-concept video and razzle-dazzle and I can't go any further with that," she explained. "I'm going to come down and just play. I don't think high-gloss sheen is going to be that resonant with people because it will feel very much 'let them eat cake.'"
Following the release of MASSEDUCTION, St. Vincent released an acoustic rework of the record called MassEducation, as well as a remix effort.
