Makaya McCraven Reworks Gil Scott-Heron's "Where Did the Night Go"
The reinterpretation appears on the upcoming 'We're New Again'
Published Jan 08, 2020Chicago-based drummer/producer Makaya McCraven will unveil his reimagining of Gil Scott-Heron's final album I'm New Here next month, and he's now shared a first rework from the effort called We're New Again.
For his reimagining of Scott-Heron's spoken word piece "Where Did the Night Go," McCraven has stripped away the original's steady drumbeat in favour of a jazzier rhythm section and flute accompaniment.
You can hear the new version of "Where Did the Night Go" below.
McCraven's We're New Again arrives February 7 through XL Recordings.
In 2018, McCraven released his Universal Beings album, which Exclaim! named one of the Top 10 Experimental & Modern Composition Albums of that year.
