Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser Hints at New Album
Published Jun 14, 2012Former Cocteau Twins vocalist and dream pop icon Elizabeth Fraser recently announced a return to the stage after a 14-year sojourn, but the even bigger news is that she may have a new full-length in the works as well.
According to a post on her website, the singer a has an album's worth of new material, but it has not yet been confirmed whether this will be released. It's hinted, however, that her new tunes may be a tad mellower than the amorphous, ethereal wails of her back catalogue.
Referring to her experience with the Cocteau Twins as "an endurance test," Fraser said in a statement: "I don't intend to do that again. I've been using my voice more gently."
As for those live gigs, Fraser confirmed she will be debuting the new tunes, as well as performing some Cocteau's classics, when she graces Bath Pavilion on August 4 in Bath, UK. The show will be a warm-up for Fraser's two sold-out shows (on August 6 and 7) at London's Royal Festival Hall, as part of the Antony Hegarty-curated Meltdown Festival, which takes place August 1 to 12. These will be Fraser's first full shows since 1998.
Since the Cocteau's breakup in 1997, Fraser contributed vocals to Massive Attack's Mezzanine, performed with the likes of Future Sound of London and Craig Armstrong, and was included on the Cruel Intentions and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers soundtracks, among other projects.
