Published Mar 17, 2020Weeks away from releasing new album It Is What It Is, Thundercat has shared another song from the effort.
"Fair Chance" finds the virtuosic bassist teaming with Ty Dolla $ign and Lil B to reflect on the loss of a loved one, and how that changes relationships whether romantic or platonic.
As Thundercat explained in a statement, the song was inspired by the passing of friend and collaborator Mac Miller.
"When [Mac] passed it shook the ground for the artist community," he explained. "Ty's a strong dude and when he heard the song he knew exactly what it should be. I was there when he recorded it. We talked about what it was, and he did what he felt was right to it, and I love what he did."

It Is What It Is arrives April 3 through Brainfeeder and also features collaborations with Childish Gambino, Kamasi Washington, Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington, Louis Cole, Zack Fox and BADBADNOTGOOD.
