Published Jun 20, 2017Nearly three years removed from delivering Le Dernier Empereur Bantou, Congo-born, Montreal-based musician Pierre Kwenders has lifted the curtain on his follow-up effort.
Titled MAKANDA at The End of Space, the Beginning of Time, Kwenders' latest effort will arrive September 8 through Bonsound. The album was recorded by Shabazz Palaces' Tendai Baba Maraire in Seattle, and is said to carry "the heritage of a modern Africa in which Congolese Rumba is at the forefront."
Further contributions on MAKANDA come from SassyBlack (THEEsatisfaction), Ishmael Butler (credited as Palaceer Lazaro), Fly Guy Dai, Kae Sun and Tanyaradzwa.
Kwenders has also mapped out a small run of tour dates for the summer and fall, which can be found below. shared a music video for single "Sexus Plexus Nexus," which was made in the spirit of celebration.
"The idea was to recreate the ambience and dances in Kinshasa," Kwenders explains of the Epher Heilland-directed clip. "The vibe of a street fair where you go with your family to celebrate until the wee hours. Listening to the song and partying, you never want it to end, all that celebration of love."
