Published Mar 14, 2012Just days after MUTEK finishes bringing its innovative electronic lineup to Montreal this spring, the city's music fans will have a chance to soak up yet another stellar festival: Suoni Per Il Popolo, which will run from June 6 to 23.
The self-proclaimed festival of "liberation music" is celebrating its 12th year in 2012. For those unfamiliar with the event, it covers a variety of experimental and avant-garde genres, including "free jazz, noise, electronica, turntable art, soundscapes, experimental rock and pop, musique actuelle, and spoken word," says the press release.
Among the artists so far announced for Suoni Per Il Popolo's 2012 edition are garage doo-wop songwriter Mark Sultan, avant folk singer Jennifer Castle, Quebec metal kings Voivod, ambient dreamweaver Grouper, Syrian dane eccentric Omar Souleyman and Vancouver folk group Siskiyou, plus Reigning Sound, William Parker Orchestra, 200 Years (featuring Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance), Psychic Ills and Silver Dapple.
Tickets for some individual shows are available right here, and you can go to the festival website for more information about what Suoni Per Il Popolo has to offer and details as to where in Montreal you can buy tickets in person.
